Mau Rakau in our Kura

Mau Rakau in our Kura

Our Tuakana students are learning Mau Rakau from Matua Sean.  The level of participation and engagement is extremely high.  Tamariki are ready and have their ears on for instruction.  It is awesome to see how much enjoyment our tamariki are gaining from learning Mau Rakau.  Thank you Matua Sean for making this possible.

I just wanted to say “Thanks Dad” for getting me a brand new scooter.  I have been sharing this with a couple of my good mates.  We love it.

Self Portraits

Ruma tekau ma toru is currently working on our Self Portraits.

This term we decided that we would utilize our black light that we have borrowed from our local AKAU art studio.

Below are the stages that we have used so far to make our Self Portraits.  The learning involved has been to understand what is a side profile, feel the side profile and then position our faces so we can get the clearest side profile when taking our photos.

Side Profile Pikitia

Printed in black and white then pasted onto some black cartridge paper.  I love this side profile, it is magic.

Tamariki then cut their own side profiles out.

We then used some fluorescent pipe cleaners for the outline and details.

Then using a hot glue gun, tamariki choose their colours and measured out and cut pieces to depict their details of their faces.

Both sides will be used, then these will be strung up with a swivel to display in our corridor, and the black light should highlight all the pipe cleaners.  Will post more when they are completed.
